Yesterday I went to see the renewed Dynamo Riga for the first time, and I gotta say that the emotions from the game were as positive as possible.
What I was positively surprised about was the fact that from our "low-budget" seats visibility was very good. Yes, we sat behind one of the goals, however it was not a problem. What I also liked was the atmosphere in the arena, Latvian ice-hockey fans certainly know how to support their team. And I liked the result.
There is no doubt that Dynamo Moscow is the better of the two teams. And there is no doubt even that it deserved to win more than their Riga namesakes yesterday. However - they did not, and it was entirely their own fault. Meanwhile the Riga side utilised almost every scoring chance they had.
What Dynamo Riga needs is one more scoring line. The power trio Hossa - Hartigan - Ellison is good. However it is not enough in the long run. And for Latvian hockey in general it would be very important to have at least a few goal-scoring Latvian in its top club. I for one would be really happy if they could get either Sprukts or Karsums (or at least Daugaviņš) playing with Dynamo. Their chances in the NHL are slim and the Kontintental Hockey League is certainly a more perspective tournament than the AHL, so it would do good if some of our "americans" would return.
