Have I won 450 big ones?

2008-06-05

I just received the regular spam letter claiming that I have won a huge amount of money in a lottery. Usually such an e-mail wouldn`t be worth writing about. But what`s nice about this one is the little details - the care that the spammers have taken when writing this complete load of bollocks.
Best bits of the letter will follow:
1) the address of the sender is austrialotto@gazeta.pl and the contents of the letter signify that I`ve won the Australian lotto. Not the Austrian. Not the Polish. The Australian.

2) the first lines of the e-mail are:

HEAD OFFICE
6123 COOL STREET ROAD
SOMEWHEREVULLE AX34587,
AUSTRALIA

Cool street road, Somewherevulle - now that sounds realistic, doesn`t it?

3) Then follows a huge amount of regular spam text only to be awakened by the following phrase:
Further more your details (e-mail address) falls within our European
representative office in Amsterdam, Holland, as indicated in your play
coupon and your prize of US$450,000.00 will be released to you from
this regional branch office in UNITED KINGDOM AND NIGERIA
RESPECTIVELY

Yup! Nigeria is involved! Now who would have thought of that? Scammers in Nigeria? Isn`t it ridiculous!

4) How can I obtain my money?
Simply contact our Regional Claims Agent
Name: Mr.Kelvin Williams
E-mail:mrkelvin.williams@yahoo.com

It`s only logical that the e-mail address for Mr. Kelvin Williams includes the Mr. part. Once again - it doesn`t sound like Nigerian scammers the tinniest bit.

5) And what do you think is the name of the person that wrote me this letter?
Carol Sweet!

Now that`s a classy last name - Sweet. I`m pretty sure that if she has a boyfriend then his last name is "Dude".
