Once again I went to the library of German literature and once again I took a look at the shelf where Duerrenmatt is stored. And you can probably imagine how amazed I was when I noticed that at last the most famous of F.D`s plays had returned from the abyss. It was my tenth or eleventh time at this shelf and it seemed that the book had been stolen from the library ages ago, but surprise surprise - it wasn`t. Yet the sun doesn`t always shine on TV for I didn`t enjoy this play nearly as much as a few other of Duerrenmatt`s works. The whole thing is a weird one, of course. A rich billionaire woman named Clair Zachanassian comes to the town of her youth that made her become a whore and she`s looking for justice. The town has gone down all those years and only her money can save it now. And she`s ready to do that but she wants justice for her money - she`s willing to pay a billion for the death of Ill - her former lover. Why would one want such a thing? If your lover refuses to accept his child and drives you on the street you probably will feel a bit bitter. There are two remarkable things about the play - first it`s how the leaders of the town think how to greet Clair (the only things they find out about her is that her father founded a public toilet near the train station and that she was above average in biology at school). And the other thing is how Ill realises that the town`s people despite mutually being on his side and not wanting to give him up start buying lots of thing upon debt knowing that they`ll get the money to repay their debts. And even Ill`s own family does the same.

Laiks rit nemanāmi tādā ziņā, ka tas rit lēnām. Vai arī ātri. Šoreiz tomēr lēnām. Es gaidu, kad man izraus zobu. Būtu dīvaini, ja šāda gaidīšana noritētu ātri.

My favourite Duerrenmatt! These two plays are meant not being shown to the spectators but a practice for the actors. The first one is a reworking of a play that I don`t know. Basically it`s a balaganic work about the family life, where Edward and Alice live together for 25 years for no clear reasons and have been hating each other for the same 25 years. When Kurt, a relative of theirs arrives, they first try to play a perfect couple but as a matter of fact they happen to be perfect monsters. The other one is a story about the first people of the earth, or not. It`s a story where weird things happen and where Biblical characters happen to be living in non-biblical circumstances, where you can`t really tell what Vietnam war people are fighting and what`s going on. It`s very sharp, of course, but for F.D. it goes without saying.

A dictator/tyrant is on his dying bed but neither his closest people nor his worst enemies want him to die too quickly - therefore a lot of doctors is working with him trying to keep the dictator alive for at least a few more years. The MP is the most important of the fellows around the dictator, and he is the most likely one to become the new number one in the country. Still there are two duchesses who also want to claim there part (their husbands are complete loonies that care about nothing but football). There`s also a jewish doctor that has come out of a concentration camp alive, has received after that two Nobel prizes but who doesnt even remember the nazi crazyasses he met at the camp and that now are among the most important men of the small country where the doctor resides. As almost all other works by F.D. this play is a combination of satire and drama, with a few mystic elements - including a peasant that`s only visible to the MP, and including a group of very old women that seem to immortal just because they hate men more than they hate death or something like that (they all die in the end though).

Ja nu gluži jauns 9/11 tas nav, tad jautri arī nav. Turklāt līdzās visām runām, ka pasaulē līdz ar talību un Huseina gāšanu ir kļuvis drošāk dzīvot, tas šķiet nejautri.

Sniedzu citaatu no nupat izlasiita albuuma apskata. Btw, recenzeets jauns Stiivena Malkmusa (who`s that?) albuums, kuraa M.Dzheksons, protams, neparaadaas. Negribu rasiit taalaaku diskusiju par sho teemu, vienkaarshi Prindls ir tik ekselents, ka nevaru to nokluseet.
