Man, do you even know who David Lynch is? You should - he created some masterpieces and some pieces of shit like nobody else in Hollywood. One thing you can`t blame him for is too much conventionality - simply watch "Mulholland Dr." and you`ll know what I mean by that. But it doesn`t necesserialy state that "The Dune" is as strange as some of other Lynch`s works. Nope, it isn`t weird like "The lost highway"! It`s just a screen version for a Frank Herbert novel. There`s only a single place in the universe where the Spice can be found - and it`s a planet where gigantic desert worms live in the sand, and where people with glowing blue eyes surround them. The emperor of the universe with the help of some fat floating baron (not Munchausen) kills the governor of that planet, but his son Paul Atreidis (he`s Greek, judging by the name) becomes some sort of the messiah to free the universe from the evil, starting with the emperor. Sting of "The Police" plays in this movie, although he`s role isn`t extremely huge, and his acting is nothing extraordinary. But this still is a nice fantasy movie.
You should know a song from this film, the one that goes "I was born... born to be wild", and "Steppenwolf" is that head bangin` band that played it. Maybe it`s the best part of the film, when you wave your hair listening to its rhyth and looking at two cool guys riding on their bikes through the US of A. Not that there`s much more in the film than those two guys on their bikes. One of them is the good looking one, and Peter Fonda is the guy who plays him. Wyatt (that`s the guy`s name) drives a cool bike in the national colours in a matching suit, while Billy is just a strange cowboy like character. On their trip after getting a load of money from a drug deal they encounter several people, among whom is a young Jack Nicholson who plays an alcoholic lawyer. What`s the problem for the heroes - that nobody accepts them - long haired motorbiking people, they are looked upon as weed junkies (which they are) and gay sissies (which they most definetely aren`t). The final is quite sad - Nicholson is killed in sleep by some morons, while the others are later shot by some stupid farmer, because like Jack said - people who like talking about freedom don`t like looking at people that are free. If you like movies with beautiful landscapes and good rock music, this one is a good choice, otherwise - try something a bit less sleepy.
A rather strange book that sometimes isn`t entertaining but still is quite mysterious and thrilling. Basic plotline: three Irish children have power to enter a Van Eyck picture. The book is written in quite an interesting manner.
This is the first film of the dilogy which gave us "Vanilla Sky". Actually, this isn`t the first part but the first version of Vanilla Sky done by some Spanish director. What`s weird about this film that there`s Penelope Cruz in the same role she also played in the film with Cruise. To be honest, there`s not very much difference between the films - maybe in this one the main hero`s face is ruined more than in the other one, but apart from that it`s still the same film with the same ideas. Oh, I forgot that there`s nothing from Monet in here (or was it the other guy - Manet? I`m not sure).
I have no idea who this Tom Vek fellow is, but he sure ain`t really normal. Otherwise he wouldn`t create such music as he does. He has the same singing style as the signer of Franz Ferdinand but not too good singing abilities. Actually he is a FF wannabe, but with a limitation of talent. `I Ain`t Saying my goodbyes` for instance is such a typical FF track that you wouldn`t believe that FF never did the song. `If you want` has a cowbell intro that reminds me of either Deep Purple or Nazareth but after that the song goes nowhere. Tom Vek is probably very raw and intense but I don`t care cos he just ain`t very interesting or amazing.
Gredzenu pavēlnieka triloģijas ekranizācijas pēdējā daļa guva tik daudz dažādu atzinību, ka man pat nevajadzētu par šo filmu rakstīt, tomēr es rakstīšu gan.
A girl of 14 is found on the street with an empty bucket in her hand. She doesn`t know her name. The beginning reminded me of the life of Kaspar Hauser. But after that there`s not too much resemblence whatsover. Ok, this little girl was supposedly not little at all, she had some kind of a sickness, but I don`t really care. She goes to a boarding school, and doesn`t succeed to good at anything. She`s a bit like Ella Enchanted, for she always does what she`s told. Not a very interesting book, I don`t even wanna go into details about it.
The creation of the fantasy world and its first age seem to be quite boring to me. Good ol` John.R.R. must have been quite nuts to create such a detailed history of his fantasy world. Man, are those names the characters got, complicated. It didn`t seem to me that there were many great quotes in here, at least I didn`t find anything I would like to remember.
Many years have passed since I last saw it. Then it seemed kinda boring, too depressive and everything that goes with it. Now I say that it is truly great. A little sight on to the plotline - a scientist triest to transplant a part of humans genitals onto a dog but in an unexpected way the dog turns into a man. Where the problem lies - he becomes much worse as a man than he was as a dog. It seems possible that soon I will add it to my list of favourite movies.
No, no, no I don`t like films of this kind. From the very beginning it was clear what the ending would look like, everything that happened on the screen seemed fake as I don`t know what.
