Although it ain`t the first album by D.B. it`s usually considered as his first, for before it David Jones wasn`t particulary known even in UK. But everything changed with the title track of this album (he at least became a one hit wonder for some years). "Space Oddity", the weird ode about Major Tom, a guy in space, is without a doubt the best track on this album and the only one you can`t live without. Lyrically it`s nice but one thing is wrong with this record - there aren`t too many beautiful memories on this disc - after having listened to it some three-four times over the period of 30 hours I have only managed to remember "God knows I`m good" and "Memory of a festival". The longest track on the album is "Cygnet Commitee", it goes for 9,5 minutes, by the way I don`t know what Cygnet is. Containing several parts almost as a prog-rock piece it starts off quite impressively but towards the end there`s quite an unlistenable coda. There are several Bowie albums that I would prefer to this one for sure.

Atšķīrība no "Pasaules vēstures 10 1/2 nodaļās", kuru lasot par Bārnsu nezināju neko un līdz ar to no viņa neko negaidīju, no "Mīlestības utt." es šo to gaidīju gan. Un šo to sagaidīju, lai gan varbūt ne gluži to, ko biju gaidījis.

After some thirty minutes I was already fast asleep, and I had no clue why this is considered to be a good movie. The plot was nowhere close to interesting, characters - uninspired, etc, etc. But then suddenly everything changed. No, I don`t mean to tell you that I found any interest in the storyline. It was the music, performances by celebrities of R&B that made the difference. And the Blues Brothers band also rocked quite hard. Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Lee Hooker - now that`s what I call musical entertainment. Once again it`s the soundtrack that saves the day.

Can you imagine what it would be like if "Memento" had been a cheesy comedy? Here you have it, and it`s entitled "50 first dates". Henry Roth is a guy who lives in Hawaii and works as a marine biologist. But what he does best is making love to tourists from the continental States. Suddenly his life changes when due to unexplainable reasons he falls in love with a girl named Lucy. Everything would be great, if Lucy hadn`t suffered a serious accident some time ago that made her lose her long term memory because of which she never remembers what happened the day before and thinks that it always is her fathers birthday. Henry uses different tricks to make her remember him, and in deed she does, but only by seing him in her dreams, in the wakening on the contrary she`s incurable. Her father and her on steroids feeding wet dreaming brother at first try to keep Henry away from her, but later they become pals with him. And Henry starts every day by showing a movie explaining everything to Lucy, as the years go by. That`s what I like about the film - it`s the ending. And Adam Sandler isn`t that bad as well, as you could guess he could be. But it still is just a silly comedy.

I first read the play and then watched the film. Probably if I had chosen the other way around I`d appreciate the film more. We still get the same situation where Ms. Trebouche makes a portrait of the philosopher Dennis Diderot (naked), but some of the other stuff is a bit different from the play. First, there`s a bishop who comes to find an underground typography where Diderot`s "Encyclopaedia" is printed. And Trebouche is a weapon in his hands. The film is certainly much nastier than the play. There`s the wife of the baron in whos house Diderot lives, she`s a fat perverted food and sex crazy woman that spends much time with her castrated slave from the East who gives her massage and his never resting flag. Then there`s the wife of some gay dude. This wife of his in the beginning gets oral pleasure from Diderot and after that switches to receiving it from her cousine (female, of course). Hell, it`s somewhat similar to a porn movie, although not really. For example, I don`t think that a naked man chasing his wife in the park and talking philosophical nonsense would fit very well in a porn movie. Still it`s a letdown from the book, but you can`t expect a film to go exactly as a book.

Larry Darrell is has become a bit weird after he came back from WW1, he doesn`t want to live the American dream like most people do but he wants to find himself. Because of that his fiancee Isabel can`t become his wife - her mother and her uncle would never allow her to become a wife for a man that`s just no good. So she marries a banker, yet when the bankers things go downwards it turns out that Larry ain`t doing quite as bad as most people think he would. After a spiritual journey through China Larry has found the inner peace he was looking for.

The more you watch it the less interesting it gets. The characters repeat the same jokes most of the times. Lou and his not really sick friend Andy who always says: "I want that one" and later says "I don`t like it". Vicky Pollard and the dumb "yeah-but-no-but-yeah" stuff. The Scottish guy with his flute is kinda ok. The fatfighters things don`t go nowhere, the transvestite Emily Howard is dumber than dumb, and Anne, the crazy person ain`t too diverse. Oh, I do like "The only gay in the village" though. By the way, the extras don`t make it much better. After having watched "The Rock Profile" best-of I came to think - if it`s the best these guys can come up with in the field of immitating pop-stars what would be their worst? They aren`t too good with make-up, their jokes are mostly rubbish and they can`t even pick up the right stars to make fun of. For example, where the hell did they forget those nice and cuddely Gallagher brothers? And the thing is only getting bigger and bigger, despite the fact that after having seen season 1 I`m sure I won`t need no season 2.
