Līdzās "Broken Sword", "Syberia" tiek uzskatīta par vienu no pēdējām kādreiz tik populārā žanra adventure/quest virsotnēm. Noteikti šāds spriedums nav bez pamata - bez lielo studiju līdzdalības veidotā Kanādas-Francijas spēle bez šaubām ir viens no jaunās tūkstošgades labākajiem kvestiem (vajadzēs droši vien uzmeklēt rokā arī spēles pirmo daļu). Galvenā varone Keita Volkere ir Ņujorkas juriste, kas apsolījusies palīdzēt vecajam Hansam Voralbergam nokļūt mītiskajā Krievijas ziemeļu zemē Sibīrijā (nejaukt ar reālo Krievijas ziemeļu zemi Sibīriju), kurā dzīvo dīvainā jukālu tautiņa, kas audzē mamutus un nepazīst mūsdienu pasauli. Taču nokļūt tajā Sibīrijā nav tik vienkārši - Hansa veselības stāvoklis ir visai vājš, pārvietošanās līdzekļi ir ierobežoti, turklāt kaut kādi divi krievu bandīti visu laiku maisās varoņiem pa kājām. Patiesībā jāatzīst, ka no vecā Hansa labuma ir ļoti maz un viss darbs jāveic Keitai vienai pašai, ko viņa arī dara. Mīklas spēlē nekādi nevar nosaukt par vieglām - vienkārša bakstīšanās šeit bieži nelīdz, turklāt lielākoties ir visai plašas teritorijas, pa kurām var pārvietoties, padarot kaut kā atrašanu diezgan sarežģītu. Būtiskākākā panākumu atslēga - rūpīgi izstudēt mācītāja Aleksija grāmatu par Sibīriju, ar tās palīdzību iespējams atšifrēt daudzas mīklas, vienīgi mums ar Lieni tam pacietības bieži pietrūka. Jā, hintus nākas izmantot diezgan regulāri, turklāt ir arī gadījumi, kur bez tā iztikt ir gandrīz neiespējami. Spēles galvenais pluss - vizuāli tā ir vienkārši perfekta, ir ļoti daudzveidīgs un baudāms arī audiālais noformējums. Tomēr grafikai ir arī viena vaina - spēle izteikti sastāv no ekrāniem (salīdzinoši Broken Sword pārejas no vienas vietas uz otru realizētas daudz veiksmīgāk). Spēles ilgums - tā kā standarta kvestam, kopumā diezgan paliels. Principā "Syberia II" ir kvests "na ļubiteļa" - atšķirībā no mainstream auditorijai paredzētā "Broken Sword" šī spēle kuram katram varētu nepatikt, action šeit aizstāts ar piņķerīgām mīklām, humors - ar ļoti māksliniecisku noformējumu.

Cik liels kvestu cienītājs lai arī es nebūtu un cik ļoti Liene lai arī nebūtu pacietīga un uzstājīga, šo spēli mēs līdz beigām neizgājām, par spīti tam, ka diezgan daudz nācās izmantot norādījumus, kā to spēlēt. Pirmajā brīdī šķiet, ka "Journey" varētu būt lieliska spēle - piedzīvojumu gabals, kas balstīts uz Žila Verna "Ceļojuma uz Zemes centru", kur gaidāmas dažādas saistošas vides un interesantas mīklas. Diemžēl spēlei defektu ir vairāk nekā Microsoft Windows blusu. Pirmkārt, sižets ir vairāk nekā saraustīts un par personāžiem domāts ir ļoti maz - Arianna, galvenā varone, nav vispār nekāda, vienīgais, kas par viņu ir zināms, ka viņa ir fotogrāfe, ko viņa regulāri atgādina. Pārējie personāži ir vēl daudz bezpersoniskāki. Programmētāji arī vietām ir makten pacentušies - pārvietošanās starp ekrāniem ir totāls pain in the ass, ka no vienas vietas nokļūt citā brīžiem ir gandrīz neiespējami tikai tādēļ, ka ļoti daudz kas gļučī. Norādes, kā ko šajā spēlē izdarīt, praktiski neparādās un mīklu risināšana sanāk vairāk bakstīšanās uz dullo, nekā sakarīga domāšana. Tas, ka galvenā varone mēdz kļūdas pēc iziet cauri kādai sienai, ka nepareizā secībā pacelti divi priekšmeti var novest pie tā, ka spēlē nevar tikt tālāk, jo kāds personāžs ar tevi atsakās runāt utt. vēl jo vairāk liek apšaubīt spēles veidotāju godaprātu. Līdz ar to mums pietika pacietības kopā ar Ariannu nokļūt pazemē, tur atrast pilsētu un aizlidot ar gaisa balonu pie Milžiem, bet tālāk spēlēt vienkārši piegriezās. Pats tu neko vai nu nespēj izdomāt vai arī baidies, ka tas novedīs pie kļūdas spēlē, dialogi ir tikpat interesanti kā multfilmās auditorijai vecumā līdz 10 gadiem, bet vietumis smukos skatus sabojā tizlie personāži. Nekādi nevienam neiesaku šo kvestu jebkad spēlēt!

A parody on 2 things - "Peter and the Wolf" by Prokoffiev and on "Carnival of the Animals" by I-don`t-know whom. The texts are totally hilarious while the music is not particulary great - what could one expect from mocking Prokoffiev? It`s not about the music anyway. I surely don`t know how one could listen to this stuff on a regular basis but as an occasional listen it`s quite a lot of fun.

A comedy about work. Not designer for a person of my lifestyle but nevertheless quite a lot of fun. Most of the characters are really good (although I don`t like Jennifer Aniston, to be quite honest). Peter isn`t happy with his work at some huge corporation where all he does is sitting in a box and filling some silly reports. Nor is he happy with his love life for his girl friend cheats on him big time. A visit to a psychotherapist changes his life upside down. Also in the crazy pot of work twist and tangle the lives of Samir Na... and Michael Bolton (not portrayed by Michael Bolton, thanks god!). There`s also a crazy dude named Milton who does nothing but worry about his stapler. Well, never mind the plot. Good as the film may be it is certainly far from great.

If I didn`t know that I wouldn`t believe that this film actually was directed by Steven Spielberg. It`s a silly comedy on an inadequate reaction people of California have after the Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbor. A submarine full of completely stupid Japanese that don`t even have a compass on board tries to attack Hollywood. Meanwhile a captain of the army tries to get laid with a girl who likes airplanes and therefore he must fly a plane despite not being very good at it. Some other dude has learned to dance for `the amateur night` (or something similar to that) but isn`t allowed to participate because he is not in the army (while his girl tries to get away from some stupid military person). A crazy airplane pilot (played by James Belushi) also takes part in the action, this subject here seems to be an influence for `Independence day`. Most of the jokes are quite vulgar and deal with people being hit by different objects. But it`s not that bad, besides it spoofs `Doctor Strangelove` (as it made that much of a difference). Not a standout film by any means, but I have seen a lot worse.

A highly praised film directed by Sofia Coppola - daughter of the legendary creator of the `Godfather` series. And this little ditty here is about a strugling actor (Bill Murray) and a young woman whose husband doesn`t pay very much attention to here, who meet each other in Tokyo. Not very much is going on in the film but the images are quite strong. Some nieces parts of dialogue where the older man explains to the younger woman about how it doesn`t get easier as life goes on. A really funny character is a famous actress who`s befriended with the husband of the young woman, who is certainly no bright person and lives in the hotel under the name of Evelyn Waugh without even knowing that she pretends to be a man.

Quite a heavy essay, I may say. The differences between a revolutionare and a rebel can be found here. Just as Camus` attitude towards Nietzsche and Marx. Educating but not very much amusing - although one should be crazy to read essays for amusement.

Let`s be honest - you don`t know who I.Aichinger was and neither did I - until I read this book. Except for the fact that her book is a part of my German project and of my female-writers project as well. Ok, enough of that already, let`s focus on the story. There are 10 stories which make up this book, all of them are about a young half-jewish girl (at the age of 15 I guess) in the madness of WW2 somewhere at the cape of good hope, that`s the reason for the title - the bigger hope. But there`s not too much hope - since nazis rule the land. There are no facts, no figures, you can`t even tell how close of how far the end of the war was, if you`re not particulary well informed you don`t know what the situation there was like (and I`m not particulary well informed), but there`s one totally strange thing about this book I can`t find an explanation for - it`s easy to read. I must admit - the subject of the book is heavy, the description - unreal, something that you could even call cosmic, but it`s still easy to read. And it makes me wonder, how can a book of this content be easy to read, even if the main hero is killed by a hand granade at the end of the book.

This time I don`t know what to say. You see, I didn`t like this film at all. It was horrible. For a person like me I mean. I don`t really know why but I found everything about this movie disgusting. I may be just a stupid, stupid, stupid dreamy teeny weeny child but I don`t want life to be like this. I know that ideals are a thing of the past and that I should be laughing at myself but I can`t. I don`t find it particulary great that every character in the film has a somewhat "accident" sexual intercourse with another persons partner and after that becomes attached to that person. It`s like sex is stronger than love, and not only stronger but more important. Especially to the male characters of this film. I can`t identify myself, I can`t like anyone in this film, I don`t want life to be like this. Yet I can imagine that this could be a very sincere film that reflects life on earth better than almost anything else in this world. But I don`t want this to be a part of me, because to me this film gives no hope. And hope is essential. I don`t even know how to rate this film. On one hand I didn`t like it at all, probably more than any silly teen comedy. On the other hand the film is certainly good - both in terms of realism and quality of acting. So what will my final verdict be? Rate it as if it was average? But average doesn`t leave you so overwhelmed with emotions. Rate it high? But I hated it, I wanted it to end all the time, I couldn`t really bear watching it and only my attitude that I must go over this kept me watching. I`ll probably pick a random number between 3 and 8, who cares how high or how low, I want to get past this for sure. Oh, I`ll leave it blank!

Šo filmu skatījos, izmantojot līdz šim nekad nepielietotu tehnoloģiju. Kamēr Liene svētdien vēl gulēja, iedarbināju laptopu un skatījos tajā filmu ar austiņām. "Joks" ir Milana Kunderas pirmā romāna ekranizācija, filma. Tās galvenais varonis ir doktors Jans, kurš izlēmis atriebties kādam savam studiju dienu draugam. Doktoram Janam reiz atgadījās kāda neveiksmīga epizode - viņš atļāvās vēstulē savai draudzenei nepiesardzīgu joku, par kuru viņa sašuta un aiznesa to vietējai partijas komitejai. Rezultātā Jans pārstāja būt students, bet nokļuva armijā un vēlāk - sešus gadus nostrādāja raktuvēs. Un tas viss - viena joka dēļ. Tagad viņš izlēmis pavest tā bijušā drauga sievu un šādā veidā viņam atriebties. Tikai viņš nav ierēķinājis, ka tas ar sievu nemaz kopā nedzīvo un ka tas tusē ar jaunām meičām un ka tas ir tik kruts, ka Janam ne sapņos nav rādījies, bet viņš pats tāds lūzerītis vien ir un ka viņa atriebība kā joks ir nekam nederīga. Filma uztaisīta visai dīvaini - tāda bezkrāsaina melnbaltā filma, tādā ziņā, ka tajā nav pat pelēko toņu. Man patika, ka atmiņu skatos Jans visu laiku netika rādīts, bet viss it kā bija viņa acīm redzams. Kopumā - nebija slikta filma, lai gan noteikti tā varētu interesēt tikai čehu kino UN Kunderas cienītājus.
