Kazhes pierakstu burtnīca

Turpinot ekskursiju 60-to gadu garāžas rokā, pievēršos grupas "The Music Machine" vienīgajam īstajam albūmam. Savā laikmetā grupa vislielāko popularitāti sasniedza ar albūma atverošo dziesmu "Talk Talk", kas kļuva par tīri normālu hītu. Šo dziesmu var nosaukt par agrīno pankroku, protams, ar obligāto savam laikmetam ērģeļu izmantošanu un rejošajiem vokāliem. Stilistiski tas ir kaut kas pa vidu starp "The Troggs" smagākajiem gabaliem un "The Animals" ērģēļu pasāžām. Taču šis albūms nav tikai "Talk Talk" bez cita satura. Grupas līderis un dziedātājs (vārdu slinkums meklēt) bija patiešām labs songwriter un viņam padevusies virkne iespaidīgu citu dziesmu - piemēram, "Trouble", "Masculine Intuition", "People in Me", "Wrong" un bonuss "Double Yellow Line". Taču problēma slēpjas tajā, ka Šons Bonivels (tomēr apskatījos vārdu) par drošāku uzskatīja arī vairāku svešu dziesmu izpildīšanu grupas debijas albūmā. Tas mums ir devis pilnīgi sisijīgo "Cherry Cherry" (ko varētu izpildīt arī mazais Donijs Osmonds, ja sagribētu), ciešamu, taču bezmērķīgu bītlu "Taxman" izpildījumu, tradicionālo koverējamo "See See Rider", ko tikai Džons Fogertijs ar Creedence Clearwater Revival varēja padarīt par kaut ko lielāku, bet Bonivels un kompānija ne tuvu nestāvēja CCR nepretenciozajam grandiozumam, patētisku "96 tears" koveru (kurš gan patiesībā īpaši neatšķiras no oriģināla, bet tieši tas arī ir patētiski - koverēt viena hīta zvaigžņu nupat iznākušo hītu) un nesliktu, taču arī ne unikālu "Hey Joe" reprodukciju (šķiet, ka šo kompozīciju ir izpildījis vismaz miljons izpildītāju, bet man personīgi pietiktu ar Džimija Hendriksa versiju vien). Kopumā var teikt, ka ja grupa kārtīgi pieturētos savam netīro garāžas rokeru imidžam un būtu veltījusi mazliet vairāk laika, lai albūmā iekļautu tikai pašas radītās kompozīcijas, "Turn On" varētu būt kļuvis par vienu no sava žanra stūrakmeņiem. Tikmēr faktiski tas spēja kļūt tikai par kādu no palīgakmeņiem un "The Music Machine" nogrima aizmirstībā vēl ātrāk nekā "? and The Mysterians", "Shadows of Knight" un vēl kaudze visādu viņiem līdzīgu "superstāru". Patiesībā žēl - jo gluži bez odziņas šī grupa noteikti nebija.

Inokentijs Marpls is a legendary Latvian underground band. Surely it`s legendary only in Latvia and only among fans of underground punk music, but who gives a damn about who praises whom. It`s not like in the Bible where Noah begeth another person and another person begeth one more person and blah blah blah so much further. This was the first record the band issued in the format of a compact disk after something like 15 years of existence. I dare not say that all of those songs on the record are very good, I dare not say that the singer of the band has a great voice and I certainly dare not say that the song which features lyrics close to "Oh, your dick is your best friend" is very intelligent. But I dare say that this album has lots and lots of energy. And what more do you need?

Если честно, то разум говорит мне, что эта книга намного хуже "Мартовских ид", однако, если совсем честно, наплевать мне не этот разум! Большая мне от него польза. Да, "Теофил Норт", это не классика мировой литературы, зато читать интересно! (по крайней мере первые три четверти книги, под конец действительно книга начинает надоедать). Главных герой - Теофил Норт - это самый что ни сказать положительный герой, один из тех людей, которые вам помогают, когда вам совсем паршиво (не уверен, что такие в жизни существуют). Главная его ценность в том, что ему наплевать, что у вас за проблемы, он всегда как Макгайвер сможет что-нибудь придумать. Вообще Тео скорее похож не на Макгайвера, а на слугу Дживса - он себе ничего в жизни не желает, он очень образован, знает кучу языков и может не только помочь снять с человека подозрения за злодеяния, с которыми он никак не связан, помочь калеке без ног найти подругу, но и предложить свои услуге жене моряка, который не может иметь детей, в создании ребенка. Конечно, я понимаю, что в своей сути это поучающая литература, но легкий юморок и добавка в виде перца мне помогает переварить этот не особенно репрезентабельный жанр без особых переживаний. Единственное, что в книге мне мешает - Уайльдер не заметил, наверное, что рассказов в романе стало слишком много и что постепенно его творение стало больно уж однообразным. Ну и еще одна мелкая неприятность - героев в романе многовато, по крайней мере я не в силах вспомнить каждого персонажа, который в течении десяти глав отсутствовал, а тут вдруг взял, да и вернулся. Я не считаю, что читателя надо считать балбесом без памяти, но у всего есть свои пределы. Да, да и я не совсем уверен, что местами у достопочтенного Уаильдера не возникает проблем с хронологией книги, но это и не удивительно - он был уже совсем не первой свежести, когда писал этот - свой последний - роман, и хотя витальности его герою все еще хватает, но, конечно, писатели, которым за 70, редко создают непревозжденные шедевры.

Sex, drugs & rock`n`roll? You bet. Not too much rock`n`roll though. "Trainspotting" was a cult book which I didn`t read, and it sure was a cult film which as far as I know not too many people have actually dared to watch. What did I expect to be? A totally gross movie about what drugs can do to people, much darker than "Requiem for a Dream". What did I get? A drama with elements of comedy, just like them British guys like it to be. By the way, they are Scottish, which is very important in the context of the film. Renton is a heroin addict who decides to dump the drugs, quite a few times. And there are his pals: Spud - the stupid one, Sick Boy - the cool one; Tommy - the physical one; and Begbie - the neurotic madman. Together they have their ups and downs, and together they deal with modern times. This film is certainly much more than an "anti-drugs" movie, in fact, it`s not even clearly anti-drugs, it`s not that easy to tell. Anyhow, I think this film was awesome, and definetely it`s not too scary for you to watch, although at some times it gets pretty dark.

The biggest problem of most Weird`s records is the fact that he wants to be a songwriter himself and not just a guy who creates parodies of popular songs. And Alapalooza ain`t no exception. Among he own songs on this album we have "Young Dumb & Ugly" - quite a normal poodle-rock song, if nothing special. Franks 2000`` TV on the other hand is a stupid and boring song about TV - the most popular subject of Weird`s songs. "Traffic Jam" is an 80s novelty song, not particulary good. "Talk Soup" seems to be a cover version of I don`t know what. "She never told me was mime" is useless. And so is "Waffle king". At least the 21 seconds long "Harwey the wonder hamster" is good. Among the covers there are two very good ones - "Achy breaky heartsong" and "Jurassic Park" and one good one - "Bohemian Polka". The rest is forgettable. As a matter of fact, the whole album is forgettable.

Ich habe keine Ahnung, worum es in dem Buch geht - fuer meinen Verstand ist es zu verwirrt. Das Buch besteht aus drei "Erzaehlungen" - "Der Puck", wo ein Junge in ein Hockey-Puck sich verwandelt, "Die Wasserfallfinsternis von Badgestein" macht ueberhaupt kein Sinn, aber die Titulgeschichte ist eine Erzaehlung von einem Leselosen Mann (was bedeutet denn das?), der von einer Buecherfuerstin in ihr Schloss eingeladet ist, damit er gesund werden kann. Ich glaube, dass nach so einem Buch sogar ich leselos werden kann.

BG is considered more than a legend in Eastern Europe and especially in Russia. I`m not so sure whether Vertisnky is also considered that legendary, but on this record BG pays his homage to the legendary singer/poet. The album has very litle music on it, reminiscing some of the old records of Leondard Cohen, only without female backing vocals. Lyrically the record is very strong, and despite the fact that it`s not very entertaining there`s a real charme in the album, genuine poetry is what`s presented on here, and not some "house/mouse" rhyming. My favourite "songs" if they can be considered as songs are "A dog named Douglas", "Half-blood" ("I don`t need a woman/I only need a theme"), "To love silently". A voice and a guitar strumming is all you need to make a heart cry.

На лекциях сегодня так скучно, что я взял, да и начал в Сети читать одну книжонку. Ну, вот я ее и прочел. Кристиан Бобен - это очередной французский писатель, с которым мое знакомство произошло скорее случайно, нежели логично. Однако, если сравнить его со Шмиттом или Вербером, Бобен - не гений. Вообще я и не очень разобрался, что он из себя представляет - на английском о нем нет почти никакой информации, но, если я правильно понял, то в основном он пишет поэзию. Вот это уж меня не удивило - "Все заняты" весьма характерна как проза поэта. Сюжет у книжки странноватый - главная ее героиня Арианна в начале выходит замуж за какого-то типа, решает, что у нее будет трое детей, тогда она его покидает после того, как зачато первое дитя (насколько я понял, в мифологии "Всех занятых", для этого физическая близость не обязательна). У нее рождается первый ребенок - дочь под именем Манеж, которая умеет предсказывать будущее, никогда не закрывает глаза и становится великой художницей. Потом Арианна влюбляется в сантехника и беременнет от его поцелуя (оказывается, что таким образом данный сантехник уже стал отцом 56 детей) и у нее рождается Тамбур. Тамбуру хорошо подается все, связанное с техникой, а позже он выбирает путь сантехника. Напоследок Арианна влюбляется в учителя, от которого у нее рожается вторая дочь - Креветта, которая после одного пожара ногами больше не касается земли и все время танцует.

Stories based upon ukrainian folklore. Some of them are quite scary while others are a bit more romantic. My judgement - pretty good for `oldschool` literature a fan of which I am not.

The name of the author seemed to be familiar. Usually I don`t go for plays. Or do I? I`m not really sure. Anyhow, the German project goes on. And here is a fine example of a diamond found in the huge pile of you-know-what. There`s this perfect girl/woman that was created by God just a few hours ago and now she has to be given to the only beggar in the world, named Akki, to help him improve his life. But everything goes wrong when Nebunakdnezar, the local king and tyrant dresses up as a beggar to convince Akki to change his lifestyle. What comes out of it is that Kurrubi - the girl - ends up given to the king. Which on one hand means that the king is the poorest man in the world and on the other - that he`s lucky. Only he doesn`t know of his luck and gives the girl away to... Akki. There`s lots of complicated problems in this short play, and it`s not only comical but also quite deep. For example, there`s a statue of the king in the garden which has exchangable heads, so no new statue should be made, when the king changes. From what I read, this was supposed to be the first part of the trilogy about the tower of Babel, but the author never wrote the next parts. But even without them this is a great play.
