Let`s be honest - you don`t know who I.Aichinger was and neither did I - until I read this book. Except for the fact that her book is a part of my German project and of my female-writers project as well. Ok, enough of that already, let`s focus on the story. There are 10 stories which make up this book, all of them are about a young half-jewish girl (at the age of 15 I guess) in the madness of WW2 somewhere at the cape of good hope, that`s the reason for the title - the bigger hope. But there`s not too much hope - since nazis rule the land. There are no facts, no figures, you can`t even tell how close of how far the end of the war was, if you`re not particulary well informed you don`t know what the situation there was like (and I`m not particulary well informed), but there`s one totally strange thing about this book I can`t find an explanation for - it`s easy to read. I must admit - the subject of the book is heavy, the description - unreal, something that you could even call cosmic, but it`s still easy to read. And it makes me wonder, how can a book of this content be easy to read, even if the main hero is killed by a hand granade at the end of the book.

This time I don`t know what to say. You see, I didn`t like this film at all. It was horrible. For a person like me I mean. I don`t really know why but I found everything about this movie disgusting. I may be just a stupid, stupid, stupid dreamy teeny weeny child but I don`t want life to be like this. I know that ideals are a thing of the past and that I should be laughing at myself but I can`t. I don`t find it particulary great that every character in the film has a somewhat "accident" sexual intercourse with another persons partner and after that becomes attached to that person. It`s like sex is stronger than love, and not only stronger but more important. Especially to the male characters of this film. I can`t identify myself, I can`t like anyone in this film, I don`t want life to be like this. Yet I can imagine that this could be a very sincere film that reflects life on earth better than almost anything else in this world. But I don`t want this to be a part of me, because to me this film gives no hope. And hope is essential. I don`t even know how to rate this film. On one hand I didn`t like it at all, probably more than any silly teen comedy. On the other hand the film is certainly good - both in terms of realism and quality of acting. So what will my final verdict be? Rate it as if it was average? But average doesn`t leave you so overwhelmed with emotions. Rate it high? But I hated it, I wanted it to end all the time, I couldn`t really bear watching it and only my attitude that I must go over this kept me watching. I`ll probably pick a random number between 3 and 8, who cares how high or how low, I want to get past this for sure. Oh, I`ll leave it blank!

Šo filmu skatījos, izmantojot līdz šim nekad nepielietotu tehnoloģiju. Kamēr Liene svētdien vēl gulēja, iedarbināju laptopu un skatījos tajā filmu ar austiņām. "Joks" ir Milana Kunderas pirmā romāna ekranizācija, filma. Tās galvenais varonis ir doktors Jans, kurš izlēmis atriebties kādam savam studiju dienu draugam. Doktoram Janam reiz atgadījās kāda neveiksmīga epizode - viņš atļāvās vēstulē savai draudzenei nepiesardzīgu joku, par kuru viņa sašuta un aiznesa to vietējai partijas komitejai. Rezultātā Jans pārstāja būt students, bet nokļuva armijā un vēlāk - sešus gadus nostrādāja raktuvēs. Un tas viss - viena joka dēļ. Tagad viņš izlēmis pavest tā bijušā drauga sievu un šādā veidā viņam atriebties. Tikai viņš nav ierēķinājis, ka tas ar sievu nemaz kopā nedzīvo un ka tas tusē ar jaunām meičām un ka tas ir tik kruts, ka Janam ne sapņos nav rādījies, bet viņš pats tāds lūzerītis vien ir un ka viņa atriebība kā joks ir nekam nederīga. Filma uztaisīta visai dīvaini - tāda bezkrāsaina melnbaltā filma, tādā ziņā, ka tajā nav pat pelēko toņu. Man patika, ka atmiņu skatos Jans visu laiku netika rādīts, bet viss it kā bija viņa acīm redzams. Kopumā - nebija slikta filma, lai gan noteikti tā varētu interesēt tikai čehu kino UN Kunderas cienītājus.

Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe, dann ist Peter Haertling einer der grossen Deutschen Schriftstellern der Nachkriegszeit. Das waere ein guter Fall fuer mich meine liebe Schule zu loben. Ich hatte da einen Fach mit einem serioesem Titel "Deutsche Literatur", wo wir in zwei Jahren fast nichts von der Deutschen Literatur lerntet, ausser Faust zu lesen und nichts davon zu verstehen.

I don`t know anything about this band but that it plays some really relaxing music. At some moments it seems that the band has a bit flare for the ambient but at other stages I can think that there ain`t no ambient in sight. Probably the most interesting song on this record is "Theory of Ghosts".

Если о Джеке Николсоне и можно что-то хорошее сказать, то не то, что он отлично выбирает фильмы, в который сниматься. Хотя критики и считают "Самтнингс готта гив" неплохим фильмом, лично я не понял, чего в нем такого хорошего. Да, Джек Николсон играет себя - мужика, которому уже за 60, но он не связывается с женщинами, которым за 30. И вдруг случается, что он знакомится с матерью своей девушки, а той уже больше 50 лет. И, конечно, происходит чудное преображение. По идее фильм этот старается быть драмой и комедией одновременно, но зачастую получается, что драматические моменты смешны, а смешные - драматичны, в результате ты смеешся, потому что фильм тупой и страдаешь по той же причине. В добавку к Китон и Николсону в меню подложили еще Киану Ривса, который играет приятного рода вырезанного из картона типа, у которого примерно столько же личностных характеристик как у куска дерева. Какого черта ему нравится героиня Китон и какого черта, когда он ей предложил выйти за себя замуж, он ее без каких либо эмоций отдает Николсону, мне уж точно не понятно. Наверное, потому, что он из дерева. А с деревянного парня не много то возмешь. Правда, начало фильма было если не многообещающим, но, по крайней мере, не тупым, и большая часть диалогов с участием Николсона в фильме тоже на уровне, но концовка была в духе самой паршивой мыльной оперы, какую только можно представить. Когда Николсон стоял на мосту и шел снег я все думал - они не посмеят кончить настолько банально, нет, просто не посмеят. Они, конечно же посмели. Ну и поздравляю их за героику.

A guy whom I don`t know somewhere on the Latvian internet said that this was the best film ever. Thinking that a lone stranger can`t be wrong, I decided to give it a try. The first thing that dissapointed me was the fact that the first few minutes seemed somewhat familiar. I must have seen the beggining of the film somewhere. Why was it bad? Because I hadn`t watched it further which can only mean that this film is of mean quality. And yes it is. There`s those two guys - Pedro and Man, and what they do is smoking weed and using other forms of drugs. But in comparison to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas this is no drug movie at all. This is branded to be a comedy but I somehow don`t remember myself laughing while watching this film. Of course, it`s cool to drive a car made entirely from drugs but that doesn`t make a good film. The only positive bit was the battle of the bands competition in the film - a few completely unkown to me punk bands participated in it, and that was cool. Apart from that - I can`t find absolutely no reason why somebody would watch this unless, of course, he hears from some stranger that this film rocks.

Have you ever wondered whether there might be a place where your all-time favourite "Santa Barbara" heroes live in reality? Have you ever wanted to be dragged inside your TV just like it happened to Spiderman and Legally Blonde in "Pleasantville"? Have you ever wanted to have three buttocks? In fact I have not, but that`s not the question here. At first I thought this film would be a film version of "Space Quest" - a nice game for old PCs. But in fact it was a tribute to "Star Gate" - you know that TV series about some weirdos on a space ship (not "Pigs in Space" in case you hoped for it). Anyhow, the actors of this TV series called "Galaxy quest" have no good acting jobs nowadays so they do conventions and sell their autographs for peanuts, but everything changes when a race of stupid aliens arrives which has watched the series and believes that it`s documentary and not acting. So they hire the actors to help their civilization agains some evil bastards. As you can probably guess, this film is a comedy, not a particulary great one, of course, but as a matter of fact it does have its strong sides: it`s entertaining enough, it pokes fun of "Star Gate" (out of which I haven`t seen more than 5 minutes), and it was the right film for me to watch at the particular time when I watched it.

Bobs Dilans nu gan nekad nav bijis no maniem iecienītākajiem mūzīkiem, tomēr man jāatzīst, ka tas vecis, kas izpilda šo ierakstu, nav nekāds Bobs Dilans. Protams, es apzinos, ka Bobs Dilans nav vairs tas džekiņš, kas dziedāja "The Times they are A-changin`" un ka "Like a rolling stone" arī ir vēstures elements, nevis aktuāla dziesma, tomēr "Modern TImes" Bobs Dilans nav tas, ko es no viņa gribētu sagaidīt. Pozitiīvi ir tas, ka viņš nav arī tik bezcerīgi garlaicīgs, kā bija iepriekš savās sliktākajās kompozīcijās, bet negatīvi ir tas, ka viņā nav nekā tāda, kas mani interesētu. Viņš izklausās vēl vecāks, nekā praktiski ir, tā "Spirit on the water" izpildot, izklausās, ka viņam ir vienlaikus aizsmakums, ciet deguns un 85 gadi. Muzikāli šis disks ir visai kantrijisks, kas nav nekāds brīnums, lai gan es labprātāk izvēlos Dilanu folksīgu, nevis kantrijīgu. Teksti viņam kā allaž ir stiprā puse, bet muzikāli, nu, nezinu, man kaut kā neinteresē ikviena veča ieraksts tikai tāpēc, ka pirms 40 gadiem viņš ir bijis ģeniāls. Diemžēl ģēnijs rokmūzikā lielākoties nedzīvo ilgi, un Bobs Dilans ir tipisks piemērs, kad tikai viņa fani katru jaunu albūmu sagaida uz "urrā!", bet praktiski viņš jau sen ir pārvērties par dinozauru. Tāpat kā Pols Makartnijs un gandrīz visi citi mani elki (ok, Dilans nav mans elks). Šos ierakstus var klausīties ne sliktāk kā daudzus jauno mūziķu albūmus, bet paša mūziķa karjeras kontekstā tie liek tikai notraust kādu asaru un uzlikt labāk kādu viņa plati no dienām, kad zāle bija zaļāka (citēju Sīci).

VIenā teikumā šo albūmu var nosaukt par veltījumu agrīnā stila Pink Floyd, tiesa, "Astronomy Domine" un nevis "Gnome" agrīnā stila PF. Vēl precīzāk, grupa līdzinās PF praktizētajam space rock un virknē epizožu atsauc atmiņā "Atom Heart Mother" un "Saucerful of Secrets". Tajā atrodams vienlaikus grupas galvenais pluss un galvenais mīnuss - lai gan tehniski blice, protams, ir līmenī, brīžiem tās sniegums velk jau uz plaģiātu, turklāt vokāli nekā no viņiem diži nav. Protams, no otras puses, viņi savu stilu praktizēja jau apmēram vienlaikus ar Atom Heart Mother iznākšanu, un tomēr, lai gan viņiem nav ne vainas un kā konceptalbūms "Ceļojums uz acs centru" ir ļoti iespaidīgs, turklāt tajā baigi labi sasaistītas kopā dažādās daļas, tomēr es labprātāk klausītos PF, nevis viņus. Tiesa to es varētu teikt par gandrīz visām grupām attiecībā pret PF.
