Somehow I never had thought about it previously but now I`ve begun to wonder - why is it usually implied that the best approximation to a number ending with .5 is up and not down? (of course, there are exceptions when the rounding is performed to marks in school/university, but I`m talking about the mathematical and not "emotional" rounding)

"Auswärtsspiel" ir pēdējais Die Toten Hosen ieraksts, kas iznāca laikā, kad manā rīcībā vēl bija mūzikas kanāls VIVA un kad es ar prieku to skatījos. Līdz ar to vismaz četrām šī ieraksta dziesmām esmu redzējis arī klipus - tās ir "Steh auf, wenn du am Boden bist", "Kein Alkohol", "Nur zu Besuch" un "Was zaehlt". Tāpēc sākšu ar pievēršanos tieši singliem (ievērojot to, ka runāt par kaut kādu kopīgu albuma struktūru un centrālo tēmu Toten Hosen gadījumā varētu būt lieki).

Frederika Pola un Sirila Kornlata "Kosmosa tirgoņi" ir īsteni vizionārs zinātniskās fantastikas romāns. Nē, tas neapraksta to, ka pasaulē pār visu valdīs Internets un cilvēki spēs sazināties, izmantojot IP telefoniju, bet visi stilīgākie ļaudis lietos "Apple" ražojumus, bet citādi tas ir patiešām ļoti precīzs romāns.

Kad biju mazs, man mūzika nepatika. Tagad grūti pamatot, kāpēc tas tā varētu būt bijis, bet tas ir neapstrīdams fakts. Un vēl vairāk - neesmu pārliecināts, ka mūsmājās mūzika vispār sevišķi bieži skanēja. Mans tētīs gan kopš laika gala ir bijis izteikts mūzikas cienītājs un kolekcionārs, bet mammas attieksme pret mūziku vislabāk raksturojama ar vārdu "atturīga".

Dīvaini, ka par šo multfilmu neierakstīju šeit tad, kad to skatījos. Patiešām dīvaini. Turklāt es pat īsti neatceros, kad tas bija. Bet, iespējams, patlaban tam nav nozīmes.

Yesterday`s results at EURO 2008 finally brought the first sensations - France drew goalless against Romania and the Netherlands got an unexpectedly high victory against Italy. I know that my rankings did presume a draw in the France-Romania match, but I`m more than sure that this was considered a sensation nevertheless because despite its high position in the rankings Romania is undoubtedly considered an inferior team to France.

Šo filmu skatījos, sekojot Roberta K. no katls.be slavinošajiem vārdiem, raksturojot to kā lielisku komēdiju. Protams, pret Roberta (kuru personīgi nepazīstu un par kuru zinu vien to, ka viņš ir liels kinomāns un pats arī vismaz kaut kādā mērā darbojas kino lauciņā) viedokli neesmu nekritisks - kā nekā viņš ir viens no tiem daudzajiem Apple Ļeģājeva Džūdas Apatova sekotājiem, kas fano par visu to brandžu, kurā ietilpst Apatovs, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen un vēl virkne dažādu personāžu, bet vienlaikus tas nenozīmē, ka viņa ieteiktas filmas nekādi nevar būt labas.

Quicksilver Messenger Service ir diezgan izteikta otrā līmeņa Sanfrancisko hipiju ēras grupa, viena no tām, kas atradās savu populārāko novadnieku "Jefferson Airplane" un "Grateful Dead" ēnā, kaut kur tajā pašā novadā kur "It`s a beautiful day" un "Moby Grape" mitinājās. Taču tas nenozīmē, ka viņu debijas ieraksts būtu tikai "vecāko brāļu" mūzikas atdarinājums, kam pašam par sevi nav nekādas vērtības.

Today we got up much earlier than usual as we had decided to take the semi-annual trip to Madona. What have we lost there? We are not fans of this city but as we are in a life-long and devastating process of having two pieces of land put into the Land Register and as most of the tasks should be done in person and in Madona (around 160 km from Riga) going to Madona isn`t an unusual business for us at all (and, off course, we need to go there on work days because otherwise everything will be closed). So far our experiences with state institutions there hasn`t been exactly brilliantly pleasant. One occasion was especially thrilling, when upon returning to Riga I wrote this entry - The reasons why I love this country, I`ve also written down my speculations on the rapidity of the land registration procedure. Actually today wasn`t as bad as it could had been expected (with the exception of unplanned expenses for some bureaucratic crap) and if there had been less road works I might had come to work before 12:00, but so approximately 30 minutes were lost waiting. If all goes well the next trip to Madona (most likely to be taken in August) will be the last for some time.
